Abdul Jalil Tawana

Abdul Jalil Tawana, born in 1962 in Herat, took an interest in calligraphy as a teenager and studied under Mohammad Ali Attar Heravi. Also taking advantage of the published works of all time masters like Mir Emad Hosseini, Abdulrahman Hosseini and Darwish Abdul Majid Taleghani, he refined his skills in the styles of Nastaliq, Shekasteh, Thukuth, Naskh, and more. He founded the first specialized association of calligraphy, Herat calligraphers’ Association, and serves as it director. He’s also the director of Tawana Tile, Glass and Ceramic workshop and Tawana conservatory. His work has appeared in various exhibitions across the world, namely in Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and the United States.
